CLE Committee

The Continuing Legal Education committee focuses on providing our members with programming to sharpen their legal skills. DABA has hosted various CLE luncheons ranging from marketing to workshops with our local judges.  The committee's responsibility is to identify the interest of our membership and organize events that will make our members the best in their practice area by continuing their legal education.

Bookbag Drive Commitee

The goal of this committee is to raise funds and awareness of the needs of students in our local community and in the Dominican Republic.  It is also responsible for planning fundraising events and securing sponsorship for donations.  Members are encouraged to travel to Dominican Republic to personally distribute the backpacks filled with school supplies.

Legal Initiative @ STU Committee

This committee is responsible for fostering the organization’s relationship with the St. Thomas School of Law.  The committee promotes and supports various events held for the law students and future law students.  Under the leadership of Kymberlee Curry Smith, Esq., this committee assists with the annual event for high school students to be exposed to different areas of the legal and law enforcement field.  The students spend the day at St. Thomas University where they learn visit a career fair featuring local private and government attorneys, legal aid agencies, and police investigative agencies.  The students have been able to meet local and Supreme Court Judges.  They also have the opportunity to participating in a moot court or mock trial competition.  The program is sponsored with grant funds from the Florida Bar Diversity program.

Pro Bono Committee

The Pro Bono Committee organizes numerous opportunities for members to provide pro bono legal help to those in need, and other service projects to help our South Florida community. In the past, DABA has partnered with Legal Services Greater Miami and participated in the simple divorce clinic.  If your organization is interested in partnering with DABA for a pro-bono project, do not hesitate to contact us.

Sponsorship Committee

The sponsorship committee is responsible for generating monetary, promotional, and, in-kind contributions for the organization’s programming and charitable contributions, including our installation and annual holiday party.
